I remembered standing at the edge of our deck as a kid and spitting watermelon seeds down to the ground below and how exciting it was to see them start growing into huge plants months later. But going beyond that, how exhilarating would it be to have a contest to see who could grow the largest watermelon? Careful attention would be required through each part of the growing process. That said, not just any watermelon variety would do.
